Why I Rarely Draw Boys

Pretty much everyone around me keeps asking why do I rarely draw boys or men. Well, to put it simply, I suck at drawing males. Somehow, they end up looking too feminine. Or too frowny (is this even a word?).

A few weeks ago, as I was playing around with my markers, I thought of trying to draw one of my OCs, Jun’s friend from my cell phone novelChidori“, to be more precise, but I failed miserably. The poor guy came out looking girly and way too young. And as if this was not enough, he also began talking back to me.

Just imagine. Your own drawing talking back to you. Telling you how you did not capture the person in your mind well enough. Saddening.

Here, if you don’t believe me. See for yourself. πŸ˜‰

  1. It’s interesting, you put this so simply, however it represents a struggle that I believe many artists go through. I have been going through an illustration famine recently, I simply haven’t felt able to draw or paint anything. For the longest time, all I wanted to do was capture my wife’s image and when we started struggling as a couple, I completely have up the medium. A few days ago I picked up coloured pens and to my surprise I began capturing my own image, not accurately how I look, but how o want to look. A mixture of masculine and feminine. Wildly bright colours.
It’s actually wonderful that you are able to express yourself without a need to delve into into the complexity, it shows that you are content with your actions, I am fully aware that I am at odds with my every thought and action so do not take this in any way as insult. I am a follow and have made it a point to every now and again to genuinely engage where I can. Thankyou for sharing your thoughts.

Oh, yes, that is true; many artists struggle with this, haha.

Did you post that drawing somewhere? I’d love to have a look at it! πŸ˜€
